Rich Black Topsoil in the Milk River Bottom - Montana

A Milk River cutbank

Hinsdale, Montana

The Missouri River once flowed in the Milk River Valley. During an ice age, probably the last, it was diverted south through what is now the Missouri River Breaks. The smaller Milk languishes in the immense valley and here exposes three to four feet of rich black topsoil that it may or may not have created.          48°25'18.56"N 107°4'33.95"W
